War Against Corruption VS Separatist Chauvinism (Watch Hate-Mongering Video Footage of a Biafran Chieftain)
Former Nigerian
President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan a man who presided over malevolent
government characterized by corruption and incompetency, openly wish he could
come to power
Biafran rhetoric always
targeting one ethic group calling them “cows” or “animals” in human form; it is
a verbal assault to denigrate the Northern Muslims. Therefore, what constitute
Biafra agitation is not about marginalization of Igbo race but deep-rooted
hatred against Northern Muslims, period!
In December
2015, former President Goodluck Jonathan’s National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo
Dasuki, was arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS) and handed over
to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over his role in the
$2.1 billion arms purchase scandal.
The money,
meant to purchase arms for the military fighting insurgency in the
North-Eastern Nigeria, was said to have been diverted through the office of the
NSA and used for 2015 campaign for the ruling party – People Democratic Party
(PDP).
The arrest
of the former NSA lead to preliminary findings, including recovered documents,
which suggested a large-scale of questionable expenditure with funds sourced
from and outside the arms purchase deals. Further investigations open up
illegal deals, money laundering, and acquisition of numerous properties in
United Arab Emirate. Many top Nigerian officials, including some very close
persons to former President Jonathan were likely to be part this manipulation.
With the
kind of revelations that we have so far, Nigeria has passed through a period of
corruption that lead to harsh economic crisis, which engulfed the nation, as
the masses were always at the receiving end.
The
integrity of any leader is his ability to stand firm and work towards the
betterment of his people; incapable of breaking the trust of those who have
confidence in him. President Muhammadu Buhari states that he will fight against
all corrupt practices and abuse of public offices if he becomes the President.
President
Buhari made it known that “there is a clear linkage between the billions of
Naira lost to corruption and the poor living conditions of the Nigerian people.
It is the resources meant for the development of our people that are diverted
to service of greed of a few. It is the fear of the unknown in a country where
both family and government social welfare have collapsed that fuels the avarice
of those in offices to steal for generations unborn.”
Shocking discovery of 9.8million dollars
in a building owned by former NNPC GMD
Following
the discovery of whopping sums of $9.8million and £74,000 cash during a special
operation conducted by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission(EFCC) on 3rd February, 2017, on a building belonging to a former
Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC),
Dr. Andrew Yakubu in Kaduna, a discovery which shocked lots of Nigerians.
The huge
cash was hidden in a fire proof safe was discovered by a surprise raid on the
facility and was sequel to an intelligence which the commission received about suspected proceeds of crime
believed to be hidden in the slums of Sabon Tasha area of Kaduna.
On February
8, 2017, Andrew Yakubu reported to the Commission’s Zonal office in Kano and
made statement wherein he admitted ownership of the recovered money, claiming
it was gift from unnamed persons.
The most pressing
question in the minds of right thinking Nigerians is how many corrupt
politicians and individuals with hidden money all over the country are walking
freely and enjoying their loots?
The
President on assuming office in May 2015, he demonstrates his action from his
campaign promise of anticorruption agenda. He demands the release of the audit
report of the missing $20 billion. More revelations emerged as the fact
findings continued…
Intellectuals
and patriotic citizens have expressed optimism on President Buhari’s ability to
fight corruption in a country where the menace has taken over the societies.
Some prominent Nigerians speak about
the past administration
"Over 20 billion
dollars unremitted to the federation account, and if nothing is done by 2015
upward, Nigeria will know what economic crisis is" - Emir Sanusi Lamido
Sanusi
"Whoever wins 2015
will NEVER find it easy to govern. Over 30 trillion is mismanaged, unaccounted
for or missing under Jonathan."- Prof Charles Soludo
"Our reserve is
depleted and our savings are squandered. Our nation is in trouble."- Dr
Oby Ezekwesili.
"For seven months,
NNPC did not remit any money into federation account. When I called as a
sitting governor and major oil producing state, Diezani Alison Madueke refused
to pick my calls."- Godswill Akpabio
"I told them to
save ahead of eventualities, but Jonathan had no political will to do so and
this is the reason why we are in crisis, because we squandered our boom."-
Okonjo Iweala
"Okonjo-Iweala,
Sanusi urged us to save but we state governors refused to save for the unseen
future during the tenure of Goodluck Jonathan, despite warning from economic
experts."- Peter Obi - Anambra Gov
"Jonathan is a
blessed ATM machine that doesn't have secret pin number" - Bala
Mohammed -FCT Minister
Critics of
this administration were pretending to be unaware of the predicament or have
malicious motives and want to jeopardize the effort by working against the
unity of the country. Corruption is evil which must be curtailed and its ill
effect must be taught from elementary level in our schools. Proper orientation
of younger generation will bring hope for a corrupt free, transparent and
orderly society in the near future.
In law, hate
speech is any speech, gesture or conduct, writing, or display which is unlawful
because it may incite violence or
prejudicial action against or by a protected individual or group, or because it
disparages or intimidates a protected individual or group. The law may identify
a protected individual or a protected group by certain characteristics.
These bigots
and chauvinists that proclaimed fighting for their sovereignty, have only
succeeded in nurturing illusions of dirty secession rhetoric. The ultimate
reality of their agitation lies within an ideology that can be seen as a
vicious violence devised through propaganda, hate speech, and insurgent threat.
What triggered the recent agitation
for Biafran separatist movement?
The
introduction of separatist organization by the indigenous people from the South
Eastern Nigeria and the arrest of the director of Radio Biafra who disguise as
a “freedom fighter” but technically applied the use of violence, incitement of
racism; hate speech and bigotry to achieve independence for a new Biafra
Nation. These and many other issues provide some insight into the harms caused
by some group in Nigeria whose really agenda cannot be ascertained.
Around
October 2015, the self-acclaimed leader of the actualization of Biafra Nation,
Nnamdi N. Kanu, was arrested by the Department of State Security Services
(DSS), on charges against him, which includes sedition, ethnic incitement, and
treasonable felony. Some of the offences
carry heavy penalties, from long jail terms to the death sentence. The
agitators are said to be demanding for his freedom, but at the same time
calling for the restoration of Biafra as an independent country.
What might have been the cause of the
upsurge agitation?
The
self-acclaimed leader of the Biafra movement, Nnamdi Kanu, set up a Radio
Biafra, live-streamed from London, which often broadcast highly provocative
message and unreliable information, in addition to “hate speech” especially
against mainly Muslims of Hausa-Fulani ethnic group. Kanu set his views with
the aim of demonizing the image of Nigeria in the eyes of international
community and brainwash the indigenous people of South Eastern Nigeria in an
attempt to disintegrate the country, in other to satisfy his interest.
The
Anti-government incitement and his contempt against President Buhari and his
government is seen by observers an avenue to gain sympathy from his fellow
Biafra agitators within Nigeria and international community. Kanu strongly
endorsed violence and act of terror as an instrument for achieving his
political goal. While in Los Angeles, US, Kanu was quoted in his usual terror
remarks:
“We need guns and we
need bullets and those of you in America will give it to us….
If we don’t get Biafra,
everybody have to die.”
What does this
statement implies?
How can someone who
openly proclaimed terrorism as the only option is seen as a hero? We really
need to search our conscious.
Nigeria has
suffered enough from the various crises that already affected the unity and
harmony among different ethno-religious group, we don’t need repetition of such
menace in our country. That’s why intimidation, violence and threat of terror
will be regarded as the cruelest approach in solving any problem, because it
will only intensify the problem and change it dimension.
Corrupt politicians
were sponsoring crisis, using propaganda and media manipulation with the aim of
causing confusion and being exposed by atrocities committed while in power. The
harsh economic enslavement Nigerians are facing today is because of years of
corrupt leadership that crippled the Nation economy.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC) says all looted funds recovered by it are paid into consolidated revenue
account of the Federal Government. Some of the recovered funds are as follows:
$153 Million – Diezani Allison Madueke, former Petroleum
minister.
$35 Million – Patience Jonathan,
former first Lady and wife of Nigerian President.
N4 Billion - former director general of NIMASA
N1 Trillion – Ex- service chiefs of Nigeria (heartbreaking corruption by those assigned to handle security and protect the lives of citizens)
N111 Million – Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) Staff
N4.7 Billion Arms fund - Minister of State (Defence), Musiliu Obanikoro and Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose.
$9.8 Million and £74,000 – Andrew Yakubu, former GMD of NNPC
N11.7 Billion mansion built by Diezani Allison Madueke, former Petroleum minister in Banana Island Lagos

No doubt,
Nigeria is in recession, life is difficult and unbearable for the common man
and the impression given is that President Buhari is responsible for the
suffering of the people. The “Thieves” who emptied the nation’s treasury
shamelessly incites and sponsored anti-government propaganda to bring confusion
and get rid of the president to enable them hijack power and continue with the
normal routine of stealing public fund. Sadly, Nigerians are so naĂ¯ve that cannot
read in between the lines to see the reflection of their predicament from widespread
of economic crisis inherited from the past regime.
On a factual
point, Nigerians don’t deserve a good leader whose political agenda aim at
setting the record straight, they will try to eliminate him to pave way for selfish
cunning political cohort. President Muhammadu Buhari has become an obstacle to
their dirty agenda of siphoning the nation’s treasury, will they ever let him
live?
